  • Make sure that the mic isn't in hold mode or else it won't turn on

  • Record in 16 bit and 48k to make sure it doesn't become too slow or anything in editing

  • If the actor is yelling record in dual because it records two recordings and one is 6 DBs quieter otherwise record in stereo or mono

  • when finished recording press the stop button not the record button or else it will just be put into standby

  • If outside you probably will need windscreens

  • Certain mics only record from certain directions

  • omnidirectional - records everything

  • bi directional mics only pic up sound from the front and back

  • cardio mics pick up sound the way they're facing and a little in back

  • an important thing to do is sync the audio with the video or else it can mess up your whole movie

For the sound design I put cruisin down the street in my 64 just for the shot of the horse galloping. I added horse walking sound effects in two shots to give the horse more life. I also added train noises and horses neighing for background noises to make it feel like a real world. The first bit of dialogue describes a horse being purchased which I added in because I thought it would make sense. In the last scene I added a clip of two people getting excited over the nights plans which I imagined the two people were talking about and then a third person off screen yelling at them.
